Scottish soprano Amy Strachan is a Fellow and Student at the Royal Academy of Music, studying under the tutelage of Mary Nelson and Iain Ledingham. She previously read music at The University of Edinburgh and whilst in Edinburgh was the recipient of the Margaret Fletcher Schola Cantorum of Edinburgh Lieder Prize and the Donald Tovey Memorial Prize – awarded to the student who shows the greatest promise in composition or performance.
As an oratorio soloist Amy has performed a plethora of works including Dvorak Te Deum, Händel Messiah, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2 – “Lobegesang”, Poulenc Gloria, Vivaldi Gloria, Mozart Requiem, Rameau Grands Motet - In Convertendo, Vaughan Williams Benedicite and Serenade to Music, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb and Goodall Eternal Light with ensembles such as Sospiro Baroque, HHCOS, Caledonian Voices, Edinburgh University Music Society and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
Operatic roles include Micaela Carmen, Rosalinda Die Fledermaus, Iris Semele, Pamina Die Zauberflöte, with Fife Opera and Edinburgh Studio Opera under William Conway and Richard Evans. Amy has also performed many scenes including Pat Nixon Nixon in China, Lady Billows Albert Herring, Mimi La Boheme, Zaide Zaide, Countess Le Nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi Cosi Fan Tutte.
Amy has also featured as a soloist in the Edinburgh International Festival as part of their Songlines series, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Cultural Programme performing the world premiere of Stephen Deazley’s Perch and has also premiered Tom Cunningham’s The Willow-Wren and the Stare and Brian Irvine’s Monuments of the Mind.
